THE CHALLENGE.....
The Forces March has rapidly become a benchmark endurance event in the UK for runners and walkers. The event attracts ultra-marathon fans and long distance hill walkers as well as people who want to challenge themselves and be a part of something special.
Participants make their way from Ilfracombe on the stunning North Devon coast through Exmoor, over the Quantock Hills and onwards through rural Somerset finally crossing much of Salisbury Plain to arrive at the finish point at Bulford Camp, Wiltshire.
As one participant in 2010 said "hills are a particular feature of The Forces March!" The route takes in some quite literally 'breath-taking' hills including the awe-inspiring Crowcombe Hill at the start of day 3.
Many participants find the march a very daunting challenge and most wish they had trained more for hills. However, EVERY participant looks back at the march with great fondness and memories of an incredible adventure.
The bond that forms between the individuals and teams along the way is unique. The atmosphere at the overnight camp stops is very special indeed and everybody learns a great deal from each other.
The Forces March is not a race. It is not a competition. It is a journey, an adventure, a life-changing experience. It is about following in the footsteps of heroes in support of Veterans of ALL generations who have served in our armed forces.
